1. Electric Burner Fails to Heat Up

If a surface element on your cooktop won't turn on, the problem usually stems from a few specific electrical components:

  • Faulty Surface Element / Coil: A broken internal filament prevents current from flowing through the burner coil.

  • Burned Element Socket: Over time, heavy use or arcing can scorch the receptacle socket, disrupting electrical contact with the burner prongs.

  • Failing Infinite Switch: The control dial switch regulates voltage to the burner. A failed switch can either leave the element completely dead or lock it on high heat regardless of the setting.

Our technicians perform diagnostic continuity tests on the burner, socket, and control switch to isolate and replace the faulty component.

2. Burners Heating Slowly or Intermittently

When an electric element takes too long to reach temperature or cycles off unpredictably, common causes include:

  • Loose Terminal Connections: Repeated removal or cleaning of surface coils can loosen the connection prongs inside the receptacle.

  • Degraded Coil Assembly: Micro-fractures in the element's internal wire cause erratic electrical resistance and weak heating performance.

  • Voltage Supply Issues: A dual-pole breaker fault can drop power from $240\text{V}$ to $120\text{V}$, leaving the cooktop powered but unable to generate adequate heat.

3. Oven Won't Heat Up At All

If your oven turns on but stays completely cold, the heating element circuit is usually interrupted:

  • Bake or Broil Element Failure: Heating elements expand and contract constantly. Over time, the internal coil can blister, burn out, or snap, leaving an open circuit.

  • Blown Thermal Fuse: Designed as a safety mechanism, internal thermal cutoffs shut down power to the heating elements if the cabinet overheats.

4. Oven Not Reaching the Set Temperature (Underheating or Overheating)

When baked goods regularly burn or come out undercooked, the temperature regulation system needs attention:

  • Miscalibrated Temperature Sensor: The internal RTD sensor probe monitors cavity heat. If it shifts against the wall or suffers internal electrical drift, it sends inaccurate readings to the control board.

  • Weak or Intermittent Heating Element: A deteriorating bake element may only glow partially, preventing the oven from reaching high temperatures.

  • Faulty Main Relay Board: Sticking or burned relay contacts on the main control board can fail to cycle the heating elements on and off correctly.
